BAB organized Bahrain Banks Reception in Washington

Bahrain Association of Banks (BAB) organized the reception of Bahraini banks at Washington, D.C. under the title of “100 years on banking services in Bahrain”, within the framework of the association’s keenness to organize this event annually to consolidate the relationships with international banks and financial institutions. Furthermore, to encourage these institutions and investors to come to Bahrain and consider it as a financial and investment center, thus supporting the national economy and diversifying its sources.

The annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank represent a very important event, attended by ministers, government officials, private sector leaders and international institutions from different parts of the world, as well as about 10,000 people among delegates, officials, businessmen, non-governmental organizations and others. The Bahrain Banking Association organized the reception this year under the auspices of the Ministry of Finance, National Economy and the Central Bank of Bahrain.

H.E. Rasheed Al Maraj, Governor of the Central Bank of Bahrain, said: “We are investing this occasion with the presence of such a large number of officials to highlight Bahrain and Bahrain Financial Center”. Mr. Al Maraj added in a statement on the sideline of the event in Washington that the 100 years since the establishment of the banking sector in Bahrain is a major indicator of Bahrain’s standing and its long history in banking services.

For his part, Mr. Adnan Ahmed Yousif, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bahrain Association of Banks, stressed the importance of the meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which are attended by many international banks around the world, pointing out that the association is keen to promote the Bahraini banking sector among the participants the Bahraini banking sector, which marks the 100th anniversary of its foundation this year.

Mr. Adnan referred to the support and role of banks operating in the Kingdom, as well as the Ministry of Finance, the Central Bank of Bahrain, the Economic Development Council, the Manama embassy in the US, and other relevant bodies. He singled out the Minister of Finance and National Economy, His Excellency Sheikh Salman Bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, who attended the ceremony personally as well as a large number of banking leaders, invitees and persons concerned.

“There are large banks and investors from Asia, Europe, America and the African countries, which provides a favourable opportunity for networking, engaging in productive working relations with them, and introducing them to the features of investing in Bahrain as well as the strength and long history of the Bahraini banking sector,” said Mr. Adnan.

“I am proud to be the CEO of the National Bank of Bahrain (NBK) for the proud history of Bahrain’s banking sector, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year, and I am proud that we are all looking into the future of Bahrain’s banking industry through digital transformation,” said Mr. Jan Christophe, CEO of the National Bank of Bahrain.

Mr. Reyadh Sater, CEO of Bahrain and Kuwait Bank said that Bahrain is a pioneer in many fields. “It is not surprising that the banking industry in Bahrain started 100 years ago, and this confirms the strength and long history of the banking and financial sector in Bahrain,” he added. He also mentioned Bahrain was able to devote its position as a pioneer in banking and trade and played a pivotal role in banking service throughout the one hundred years since the banking services started.

The meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank discussed issues of global concern, including global economic prospects, poverty eradication, economic development and aid effectiveness.  Regional symposia, briefings, press conferences and many other activities and events focusing on the world economy, international development and the global financial system are also being held.

The Bahrain Banking Association seeks by organizing this important event to highlight the importance of the banking industry in Bahrain, its remarkable position and achievements, and the recent legislation and developments it has witnessed and its great role in supporting governments and private sector institutions in the world over long years dating back to the mid-1970s.

These efforts are in line with the efforts of the Central Bank of Bahrain (CBB) aimed at enhancing the high profile of the banking industry in the Kingdom, and also are in line with the efforts and plans of the Economic Development Council, which has made the financial sector one of the main sectors to attract investments from different parts of the world.

مصارف البحرين تنظم حفل استقبال البنوك البحرينية في واشنطن 

نظمت جمعية مصارف البحرين حفل استقبال البنوك البحرينية في العاصمة الأمريكية واشنطن تحت عنوان “100 عام على الخدمات المصرفية في البحرين”، وذلك في إطار حرص الجمعية على تنظيم هذا الحدث سنويا بهدف توطيد العلاقات مع المصارف والمؤسسات المالية الدولية، وتشجيع هذه المؤسسات والمستثمرين العالميين للقدوم إلى البحرين واتخاذها كمركز مالي واستثماري لهم، ما يؤدي إلى دعم الاقتصاد الوطني وتنويع مصادره.

وتمثل الاجتماعات السنوية لصندوق النقد والبنك الدوليين فعالية على جانب كبير من الأهمية يحضرها الوزراء والمسؤولين الحكوميين وقيادات القطاع الخاص والمؤسسات الدولية من مختلف بقاع العالم علاوة على نحو 10 آلاف شخص ما بين أعضاء الوفود والمسؤولين ورجال الأعمال والمنظمات غير الحكومية وغيرها. وقد نظمت جمعية مصارف البحرين حفل الاستقبال هذا العام برعاية وزارة المالية والاقتصاد الوطني ومصرف البحرين المركزي.

سعادة السيد رشيد محمد المعراج محافظ مصرف البحرين المركزي قال “نحن نستثمر هذا المناسبة بوجود هذا العدد الكبير من المسؤولين لإبراز البحرين ومركز البحرين المال”، وأضاف المعراج في تصريح له على هامش الفعالية في واشنطن أن مرور 100 عام على تأسيس القطاع المصرفي في البحرين يمثل في حد ذاته مؤشر كبير على مكانه البحرين وتاريخها الطويل في مجال الخدمات المصرفية.

من جانبه أكد الأستاذ عدنان أحمد يوسف رئيس مجلس إدارة جمعية مصارف البحرين أهمية اجتماعات صندوق النقد الدولي والبنك الدولي التي يحضرها الكثير من البنوك الدولية حول العالم، مشيرا إلى حرص الجمعية على الترويج بين المشاركين للقطاع المصرفي البحريني الذي يحتفل هذ العام بمرور مئة عام على تأسيسه، مشيرا إلى الدعم والدور الكبير الذي تقدمه البنوك العاملة في المملكة، وكذلك وزارة المالية ومصرف البحرين المركزي ومجلس التنمية الاقتصادية وسفارة المنامة في أميركا، وغيرها من الجهات ذات العلاقة، وخصَّ بالذكر معالي الشيخ سلمان بن خليفة آل خليفة وزير المالية والاقتصاد الوطني وحضور معاليه شخصيا للاحتفالية، إلى جانب عدد كبير من القيادات المصرفية والمدعوين والمهمتين.

وقال الأستاذ عدنان “هناك بنوك كبيرة ومستثمرين من آسيا وأوروبا وأمريكا ومن الدول الافريقية، وهو ما يوفر فرصة مواتية للتشبيك والدخول في علاقات عمل مثمرة معهم، وتعريفهم بميزات الاستثمار في البحرين، وبمتانة وعراقة القطاع المصرفي البحريني”.

بدوره قال السيد جان كريستوف الرئيس التنفيذي لبنك البحرين الوطني “أنا فخور كون الرئيس التنفيذي لبنك البحرين الوطني بالتاريخ المشرف للقطاع المصرفي البحريني الذي يحتفل هذا العام بمرور مئة سنة على انطلاقته، وأنا فخور أيضا أننا نقوم جميعا باستشراف مستقبل الصناعة المصرفية في البحرين من خلال التحول الرقمي”.

كما قال السيد رياض ساتر الرئيس التنفيذي لبنك البحرين والكويت إن البحرين رائدة في مجالات كثيرة، وأضاف “ليس غريبا أن تكون الصناعة المصرفية في البحرين بدأت قبل مئة عام، وهذا يؤكد عراقة ومتانة القطاع المصرفي والمالي في البحرين”. وأضاف أن مرور مئة عام على الخدمات المصرفية في البحرين استطاعت خلالها ان تكرس مكانتها كرائدة في عالم المصارف والتجارة ولعبت دورا محوريا في مجال الخدمة المصرفية.

هذا وناقشت اجتماعات صندوق النقد الدولي والبنك الدوري القضايا موضع الاهتمام العالمي، ومنها الآفاق الاقتصادية العالمية، واستئصال الفقر، والتنمية الاقتصادية، وفعالية المعونات. وتعقد أيضا ندوات وجلسات إعلامية إقليمية ومؤتمرات صحفية والكثير من الأنشطة والفعاليات الأخرى التي تركز على الاقتصاد العالمي والتنمية الدولية والنظام المالي العالمي.

وتسعى جمعية مصارف البحرين من خلال تنظيم هذا الحدث المهم إلى إبراز أهمية الصناعة المصرفية في البحرين والمكانة المرموقة التي بلغتها والإنجازات التي حققتها، والتشريعات والتطورات الحديثة التي تشهدها وما تتمتع به من دور كبير في دعم الحكومات ومؤسسات القطاع الخاص في العالم عبر سنوات طويلة تعود إلى منتصف السبعينيات. وهذه الجهود تتلاقى مع جهود مصرف البحرين المركزي الرامية إلى تعزيز المكانة المرموقة للصناعة المصرفية في المملكة، كما تتلاقى وتتحد مع مساعي وخطط مجلس التنمية الاقتصادية الذي جعل القطاع المالي أحد القطاعات الرئيسة التي تستهدف استقطاب الاستثمارات لها من مختلف بقاع العالم.
